Almost a month ago (where does time go??), I had just gotten into my head to give the capsule wardrobe concept a try. However, didn’t really know where to start. I was going to be starting a new job where jeans and sneakers were not an option, so I was in need of rethinking my style. At the same time, I still wanted it to be my style. At that same moment, three of the Boston Bloggers announced that they were hosting an event at the Madewell store on Newbury Street. Madewell is one of my favorite brands. I love the very laid-back style that still gives you the option to dress it up or down. I immediately thought to myself: “perfect timing! I’ll start there”.
Getting Started with the Capsule Wardrobe
The goal of a capsule wardrobe being to minimalise the amount of clothes you use, my intention was to only get the bare necessities. Except that when I got down to looking into what I needed, I quickly realized I mainly owned jeans and sneakers (whoops). I had already gotten a pair of dress pants and a cardigan from banana republic, so I made myself a list of the things I needed, the color palette I wanted to go for and then the budget I wanted to stick to. I honestly didn’t think it would work, but to my surprise it did.
The event was a lot of fun. Out of the three bloggers hosting, I knew Gabby a little. We had previously met and talked at a couple of Boston Bloggers events. She was, as always, so nice and gave me a lot of styling ideas. They had set up a rack with the top choices for each of the bloggers. It was very interesting because Gabby, Bethany, and Robbin each have their own style. I would highly recommend their blogs if you are looking for fashion inspiration. I spent a good 2 hours there trying everything I could get my hands on. I figured that since I was there might as well make the most out of it. I got quite a few pieces that I am absolutely in love with and that I will make sure I feature on this blog very soon.
At the end of the event, I shared with Gabby all my purchases and I thanked her for all of her help. It felt like a girls night out. I got home very happy with myself for sticking to my budget and to the list of things that I actually needed. Now let the capsule wardrobe experiment begin!
Do any of you have a capsule wardrobe? Do you have any advice for me? Thank you!
